Camp Pinkalicious -- Part 1

new

Friday night, 15 kids will attend Camp Pinkalicious in my backyard. We're calling it a "reading party in honor of summer and lots of great books." Inside the invitation, we have a picture of the Cowboy Camp cover. Underneath, it says, "Cowboy games. Cowboy food." Below that is the Pinkalicious cover with the words "and lots of pink, pink, pink!"

We asked kids to bring a paint shirt and one used book to swap.

When they arrive, they will be assigned to a tent where their counselor will read the welcome announcements and daily camp schedule. While they wait for the other campers to arrive, they can read books in their comfy tents.

Next, they are off to "wardrobe" where they will get pink ribbon hair ties, pink nail polish and pink pony tails. (For the one best friend who is a boy, we bought silver hair spray. The girls get pink)

We'll ring the dinner bell and they will go to the mess hall for cowboy dinner. We decided on hot dogs, baked beans, carrots and chips to make this easy. Dinner will be served in tin pans.

While we eat, I'll read Cowboy Camp. (author site) (otherwise known as [info]tamarak )

After dinner, it's off to the garage to paint reading pillows.

While they are painting (or right after, depending on the attention span) we'll read Pinkalicious (author site).

The obstacle course will be next. We have a tin can shoot (water guns), sack races, horse shoes, "horse" races, hula hoops and some hoops to hop through.

After they are all hot and tired, we'll make S'mores and have Campground Karoke. A wants to teach the kids to sing I Will Survive, and the dance that goes with it, from her Girl Power Pop Vocals camp. We've also made a long CD of songs tweeners love, with lots of High School Musical.

We'll end the night with a water balloon fight. While they wait for parents to pick up, they can make book marks and post cards or run around the yard like wild people (most likely).

We'll see how smart I think this was on Saturday morning. The kid parties we throw are always a lot of work, but so much fun!

That is TOO COOL! I want to be at the pinkalicious party! Where's my feather boa? Where's my nail polish?

I really, really wanted to buy feather boas, but with that many kids, I had to give up the dream. For some reason, even our "little" parties get too big. I want a crown too.

What a good mom and party-planner!

Will you plan my daughter's bat mitzvah reception? Pretty please?

party-planner
Sure, I'll plan the party if you give me a room in that beach house you're about to get! :-) I promise I'll be really quiet.

He IS brave. And such a sweetie too. He is very comfortable around all the girls. He did inform me today that he wasn't wearing pink nail polish. And, his sister requested water instead of root beer.

Then, you are soon-to-be the favorite author of 17 little divas. :-)

Oh, you're one of those moms! Seriously, it sound amazing--I'm in awe. What kind of mom am I? I bribed my kids with a day in NYC and a Broadway show last year so I wouldn't have to do parties. Spamalot sounds good for this year, don't you think?

Yes, I am one of those moms! I really just wanted to throw a summer party because my two older girls have winter birthdays! S has put in a request for a pirate slumber party. A's pirate party was a huge hit among the first graders two years ago. My husband dressed up as a pirate. Then all the girls were trying to make their dads dress in costume for their parties.

I'd take a Broadway show over a party any day! My kids might go for that too. They love shows.

My girls have been into painting things all summer. We painted Father's Day pillows for my husband and the grandpas.

I love, love, love the fact the two books are so, so different. How is it that as adults we feel the need to go with a consistent theme? Brings me back years ago where this girl's birthday cake had both Barbie and Batman ... and even further to a time when I was playing super chef one minute and driving toy cars into walls the next. Have a great time!

LOL!
That is so true and funny. It reminds me of when I was probably in 3rd grade, playing Barbies with my girl friends one day and spies with the boys the next. One day, the boys got mad and "kidnapped" me from the Barbie game and tried to force me to play spy games instead.
